Bottom surgery cost
Genital reconstruction is quoted by procedure and by stage. There is no single price that covers orchiectomy and phalloplasty alike, and we will not pretend there is.
An estimate that names every stage
Bottom surgery at Chrisalys ranges from a relatively short orchiectomy to multi-stage phalloplasty or a single-stage vaginoplasty. Facility time, hospital nights, flaps, implants, and hair-removal months all change the total. A number on a homepage would be fiction.
After consult, you receive an itemised estimate for the stage being scheduled: surgeon, anesthesia, facility or hospital, implants or grafts, the inpatient stay if there is one, and the follow-ups that belong to that stage. Later stages (urethral revision, testicular implants, a second flap) are quoted when they are indicated, not hidden inside the first invoice.
Insurance is how most of our genital patients pay. Medi-Cal, LA Care, IEHP, and private plans often cover medically necessary bottom surgery, with pre-authorization and letters. Out-of-pocket is still real: deductibles, coinsurance, uncovered travel, and lodging. Self-pay and payment plans: financing. We do not list cash prices here.
What drives the quote
The operation itself
Vulvoplasty is not vaginoplasty. Meta is not phallo. Each has different time, implants, and hospital needs.
Staging
Each trip to the operating room is its own estimate. Combining them on one sheet when the medicine says two dates helps no one.
Hospital versus outpatient
Nights in a hospital are a line item. Outpatient orchiectomy is not billed like a flap case.
Hair removal and recovery stay
Genital electrolysis or laser, and an optional recovery retreat, are planned and priced in their own lanes.
What to expect.
Consult and procedure choice
Goals, anatomy, and medical limits decide which operation we are even quoting.
Written estimate and authorization
You see line items. If you are using insurance, we submit before treating the estimate as the amount you will owe.
What you still pay
Plan-determined out-of-pocket, travel, lodging, and any uncovered stages. Financing: /insurance/financing.
Frequently asked questions
Why won't you post a starting price?
Because the spread between orchiectomy and staged phalloplasty is not a rounding error. A starting price would describe almost no one in the waiting room.
Does insurance cover bottom surgery in California?
Medically necessary genital reconstruction is commonly covered by Medi-Cal, LA Care, IEHP, and many private plans. Pre-authorization and documentation still apply. See /insurance.
Are revisions included in the first quote?
Medically necessary treatment of complications we are responsible for is part of care. Planned later stages and elective aesthetic revisions are quoted when we know they are needed.
Can I finance a self-pay balance?
Yes. Options are described at /insurance/financing. We still complete a consult and a written estimate first.
